GMC survives (god knows why the brand has no identity), so does Buick(Chinese buy them),They are also keeping the Cadillac(flagship) and Chevrolet(value brand). opel insignia 300x225 Pontiac is dead!I must admit that I have had a great  experience with GM cars as far as basic reliability goes. My GM made cars always started and never let me down. I always felt that they were the best value for used cars. The problem is for a car to become a used car someone has to buy it new.Future belongs to car makers that make smart cars. GM has 2 brands that look and feel smart (Opel and Saab) and 2 that could be rescued (Cadillac and Chevrolet but they need to be more distinct). Buick is not cool enough to make a comeback in North America. If they can buy time and if  there is such thing as the future for GM they need to focus on global cars. They need to position Opel against the VW and offer more for less. Saab as  their only iconic car should be redesigned with 93 going back to its roots. Saab needs to go back to high end hatchback  body style that Saab buyers like, but it must offer more than the 3 series BMW in terms of horsepower and maybe all wheel drive to give it rally pedigree. I am sure that they have some Subaru stuff collecting dust. Same goes for a 95 model that needs a makeover more than Porsche 911. Cadillac needs to come up with a STS that can be interesting next to a E class or 5 series BMW and they need a flagship to trow against the 7 series and S Class. Chevrolet has to make their own stuff ranging from indestructible subcompacts to diesel powered taxi cars(gas savings alone could pay for the monthly payment on one of these).

Last They need to hire me or DR Phil so that when they come out with a car that is stupid one of us can ask them: are you out of your mind?(with Dr Phill accent).
